Application of aerogel felt

Feb 22, 2023

In various fields, there are a large number of transmission pipelines, a large part of which are used to transport high-temperature and low-temperature fluids. If the pipeline is not insulated, the service life of the pipeline will be affected; Reduce the utilization rate of equipment, reduce benefits, and is not conducive to the effective use of energy.

The main purpose of pipeline insulation is to reduce heat loss, save fuel, prevent liquid condensation in the pipeline and extend the operation period of the pipeline. The development of pipeline insulation is following the development of wall insulation. Pipeline insulation requires better heat resistance, corrosion resistance and water resistance. As a new type of thermal insulation material, aerogel felt has outstanding thermal insulation effect.

1、 What are the pipe insulation materials?

Pipe insulation materials mainly include: rock wool, high-temperature resistant glass wool, aluminum silicate, microporous calcium silicate, composite silicate, pipe support, heat shrinking band, polyurethane composite, etc.

Different from the emphasis on fire resistance and non-toxicity of wall insulation materials, pipe insulation materials are more focused on waterproof, anti-corrosion and high-temperature resistance. Because thermal insulation materials play an important role in the process of pipeline insulation, reasonable selection of thermal insulation materials can save energy. Therefore, in today's world energy crisis, actively looking for new thermal insulation materials with small unit weight, excellent thermal insulation performance and long service life is one of the effective ways to improve the utilization rate of heat energy and save energy.

2、 Aerogel felt

Silica gas gel thermal insulation cotton felt is an external wall thermal insulation material made of silica gas gel as the main material, which has the advantages of low thermal conductivity, low density, high strength, high space utilization, sound insulation, green environmental protection, waterproof and incombustible.

3、 Comparison of thermal insulation materials

1. Construction field
The largest amount of polystyrene foam is used for building insulation, followed by rock wool, mineral wool and glass fiber insulation materials. Polystyrene foam will slowly volatilize toluene, xylene, chlorofluorocarbons and other organic monomers indoors in a long time, polluting the indoor air. In case of fire, it will also participate in combustion, release more harmful gases, and cause white pollution when buildings are demolished. Fibrous dust produced by glass wool, mineral wool and other materials during installation and removal also has a certain impact on human health.

2. Industrial sector
Due to the limitation of space, volume or weight in many industrial fields, thermal insulation materials with super thermal insulation function are urgently needed. For example, steel ladles and tundishes in metallurgical industry, pipe supports and hangers in electric power industry, some steam pipelines, and many kilns that need to be transported in length and assembled on site after manufacturing in workshops all need aerogel felt.
